Hard Working Family Background

Bennett is a 53-year old Civil Engineer and fifth generation Texan. His family helped establish Coppell, ran the downtown general store and even founded the Baptist Church, where Bennett’s Great Grandfather preached the Gospel. He is a graduate of the University of Texas (B.S. Civil Engineering), has been married to his wife Beccy, a former public school teacher, for over 30 years and has three grown children, all graduates of the local public schools. They have been homeowners in Coppell for over 20 years and are active members of Irving Bible Church.

Small business owner

Bennett and Beccy are Small Business Owners of a Local Civil Engineering Firm, The Ratliff Group, LLC, which has been listed as one of the top 100 firms in the nation in their field. Bennett was also named as 2013 Distinguished Engineer by the Texas Engineering Foundation of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.

Bennett was elected as Republican State Representative for the 83rd Legislative Session. He also served on Texas House Appropriations and Public Education Committees. Bennett has been cited for outstanding Texas House Freshmen legislative leadership by Republican Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, Capitol Inside, and Texas Monthly Magazine. In addition, Bennett was named one of the “Best of Dallas-Area’s Freshman Class in Texas House” by the Dallas Morning News and nominated in 2013 and 2014 for Texan of the Year by the Dallas Morning News.

Bennett was named an Honorary Life Member of the Texas PTA for Outstanding Service to the Children of Texas. Also, he was named a “Champion of Free Enterprise” the highest award given to legislators by the Texas Association of Business, and named a Legislative “Champion” by the Retired Teachers’ Association.

Bennett was named the “Lone Star Conservative Leader” by the Texas Conservative Roundtble. Also he was named an “’A’ Rated Conservative” by the Texas Future Business Alliance and has a 100% rating by Texas Right to Life.

He is a lifelong Republican; Three-time Republican State Convention Delegate and supporter of Republican Party activities and Local Republican Clubs.

Former School board member and active community volunteer

Bennett is a former nine-year member of the Coppell ISD School Board and School Board Vice-President. He is an active sponsor of the local High School Solar Car Team and Engineering Academy. Furthermore, he is an active volunteer for disability groups: Special Olympics, Challenger Baseball and Ironman for Angels. He is the founding member of the Coppell Education Foundation.

Bennett’s wife, Beccy, served as the Governor‘s Appointee to the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities and also served as the 2014 Chairperson of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce. Beccy currently serves on the Board of Directors of Metrocrest Social Services and Bea’s Kids

Dedicated Republican and Conservative

Bennett served District 115 as State Representative. He is an avid outdoorsman, marathoner and NRA Member (”A” rated).

Bennett’s Father, Bill Ratliff, served in the State Senate and as the Republican Lt. Governor of Texas, and his brother, Thomas Ratliff, currently serves as the Republican Vice Chairman of the Texas State Board of Education.
